Raptor - Advanced VNX+ Systems and Modules
(VITA 74 & VITA 90)

The Raptor is a rugged, Small Form Factor (SFF), Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS), pre-qualified computer based on the new VNX+ (VITA 90) and the legacy VNX (VITA 74) standards. Derived directly from OpenVPX (VITA 65) and VPX (VITA 46), VNX+ follows the VPX trends, and is specifically designed to employ the essential tenants of OpenVPX for significantly smaller deployments. A typical Raptor system may be only 1/3 the volume of a similarly equipped 3U VPX platform, making VNX+ today’s most important industry standard for rugged, MIL-SPEC, COTS SFF computing.

A subset of the VITA 90 VNX+ standard has been selected by the Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) Consortium as the new SFF standard to be employed in C5ISR systems. Many of the current and planned Trident Infosol VNX+ modules will align with the current SOSA standard and updates. Contact Trident’s USA representative for more information on Trident Infosol VNX+ SOSA alignment and conformance. (us-sales@trident-sff.com)

Though the Raptor has a small Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) footprint, there is no need to compromise CPU processing, I/O, video/graphics, and storage capabilities. Utilizing the latest SWaP optimized, System on a Chip (SoC) mezzanine computers, high density connectors, and advanced cooling designs, Trident’s Raptor systems are suitable for many military avionic and vetronic applications. A Raptor system starts with its rugged, conduction cooled, fan-less enclosure, and employs Trident’s VNX+ Power Supply Module (PSM), Power Filter Module (PFM), and Energy Storage Module (ESM). Today, VNX+ modules are available from Trident which support an Intel Architecture Core-i7 or Atom processor, the NVIDIA Xavier “Supercomputer” GPU, and soon Xilinx MPSoC and RFSoC processors. Commonly supported I/O include MIL-STD-1553B and ARINC-429 data buses, HD Video Graphics, RS-232/422/485, Gigabit and 10 Gigabit copper and fiberoptic Ethernet with multiple protocols, analog and discrete I/O, Inertial Measurement and Navigation, GPS, and Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and 5G networking. Coming soon will be Chassis Manager Modules and Ethernet Switches, including a Control Plane / Data Plane Switch.

The Raptor systems are qualifiable to common military Power, Environmental, and EMI standards. As the Raptor systems are compliant with the VNX+ family of standards, Trident Infosol systems may readily incorporate modules from other suppliers for specialized functionality.
